Podere Il Sassolo is a winery founded by the Mannelli family in 1972. Since then, with extreme passion and respect for these places so loved in the past by the Medici family and realizing the potential of the territory, the ancient farmhouse from the grand ducal era has been renovated , building a modern cellar in step with the times and planting new vineyards. All with the aim of producing a noble and elegant wine with love.

The property currently extends over 14 hectares, of which 6 are vineyards and 3 are olive groves. All the vineyards are located approximately 180 meters above sea level in Santa Cristina a Mezzana, one of the historic crus of Carmignano, in a natural valley within the Montalbano mountain range, with the Artimino hill acting as sentinel. The exposures to the East and South are excellent and, aided by a particularly favorable microclimate, manage to bring the grapes to maturity, reducing phytosanitary interventions to a minimum. The first plant dates back to 1970 with subsequent expansions and re-plants in 2001, 2002 and 2018.

The vines present are those foreseen by the specifications of Carmignano Docg and Barco Reale di Carmignano Doc, therefore predominantly Sangiovese, with smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The harvests are carried out manually in full respect of the local winemaking tradition. The use of wood is well calibrated to non-invasively support the undisturbed rest of the wine during the maturation phase, which in the case of Carmignano Docg can last up to 16 months.
