TENUTA MONTETI

Tenuta Monteti was founded in 1998 when Gemma and Paolo Baratta, after a long search, found in this small valley in the lower Maremma of Tuscany, near Capalbio, the ideal place to realize their project of high-quality viticulture. Today the company is run by their daughter Eva and her husband Javier Pedrazzini.

The estate is located in the first hills, 15 km from the sea, and the 30 hectares of vineyard are protected by the Monteti hill that slows down the strong winds of the Mediterranean, converting them into a gentle breeze, ideal for the healthiness of the vines. On the slopes of Monteti, then, there are the 5000 olive trees from which the organic extra-virgin olive oil is extracted.

The ideal microclimate and the complex soils, rich in stones and clay in depth, with an excellent south-east/south-west exposure, allow the planted varieties, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Alicante Bouschet, to express themselves in unique and intense ways.

The company was designed from the beginning so that agronomic and oenological research could work in close synergy. The criteria with which the varieties were planted and with which the cellar was designed, the parcel-wise vinification and the exploitation of gravity, are all choices that converge in the sole objective of producing wines of the highest quality. All this distinguishes Tenuta Monteti and is the center of the story to visitors.

Since 2017, Tenuta Monteti has earned the “Sustainable Company” certification under the V.I.V.A. program of the Ministry of the Environment. Since 2023, the SQNPI (National Quality Systems Integrated Production) Sustainable Quality certification has been added.
The achievements of these certifications are confirmation of the philosophy underlying the work, both in the field and in the cellar.

Tenuta Monteti produces three wines that reflect, each in its own way, the unique terroir of the Maremma.

Monteti, IGT Toscana: composed of Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon (aged for 18 months in French oak barriques and tonneaux), it is a synthesis of complexity, depth and elegance, which reflects the pristine woods that surround the vineyards.

Caburnio, IGT Toscana: blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Alicante Bouschet and Merlot (steel and French oak barriques/tonneaux for 12 months) combines complexity and freshness, a Mediterranean wine that reflects the sunshine of the inland hills.

TM Rosé, IGT Toscana: a rosé from early harvest and slow fermentation at low temperature, composed of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Mourvèdre. The color is that of dawn, rich in aromas, delicate and fresh, a tribute to the nearby sea.

The tastings also include Organic EVO Oil, produced from typical local varieties such as Caninese, Frantoio, Leccino and Moraiolo. Even in the production of oil, the attention to detail that characterizes that of wines is applied. The different varieties are harvested and pressed separately, each at its ideal point of ripeness, to then compose the blend with the best plots to obtain a fragrant, intense and balanced oil.
